PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to provide information to Councillors on the process for undertaking
a review of the Noosa Waste Management Strategy.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

A comprehensive review of the Noosa Waste Management Strategy is planned to be undertaken
in a two-stage approach as follows:
1. Initial research, planning and recommendations to guide the development of a new Waste
Management Strategy for Noosa (Feb – May 2014)
2. The development and adoption of a Waste Management Strategy (June – Dec 2014)

Lloyd Consulting have been engaged to undertake Phase 1; the initial assessment of issues in
order to provide guidance and to support a more focused approach to the development of a new
Waste Management Strategy for Noosa.

Phase 1 will provide two key deliverables for Council, namely:

 A set of recommendations on which priority areas can be targeted for further review and
detailed assessment in order to guide the development of a new Waste Management
     Strategy for Council; and
 A Waste Strategy Review Project Plan outlining the actions, timing, resource and indicative
cost of preparing a new Waste Management Strategy for Council by 31 December 2014.

The project will be delivered over a 10 week period ending in late April and the process will allow
for Councillor and staff consultation and feedback and incorporate a review of documentation,
practices, opportunities for improvement and partnership and exiting contract arrangements.
