INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 25 FEBRUARY 2014
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
As a result of de-amalgamation there is a need to review all existing waste
management/minimisation strategies, policies and implementation plans that were inherited from
the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCC) and to consider their relevance and appropriateness
to Noosa.
Additionally, there are a number of legacy issues which Council will have to understand and plan
to manage which are associated with the Eumundi Rd landfill and transfer stations.
Finally, there is a need to review all existing contracts and arrangements associated with the
waste management service and ensure that these can be ultimately realigned with any new
strategy.
In order to achieve this outcome a two-stage approach to this review is planned as follows:
1. Initial research, planning and recommendations to guide the development of a new Waste
Management Strategy for Noosa (Feb – May 2014)
2. The development and adoption of a Waste Management Strategy (June – Dec 2014)
Proposals have been sought from consultant(s) with suitable knowledge and experience in the
waste management sector and Lloyd Consulting have been engaged to undertake Phase 1; the
initial assessment of issues in order to provide guidance and to support a more focused
approach to the development of a new Waste Management Strategy for Noosa.
