WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Relationships are key to good governance in local government. Good relationships, which are based on respect, understanding and agreement around roles help the different elements of a local government to work together effectively. Furthermore, it helps if employees recognise the political environment in which elected members operate and acknowledge that the system is based on democratic governance. Elected members similarly need to understand that to prepare information and provide quality advice on a wide range of issues is a highly complex and resource intensive task.
