ACCESS &              Under legislation, an elected member

PRIVACY               can have access to information held
                      by Council that is relevant to the
                      performance of their functions under
                      the Local Government Act 2009 or
                      other legislation. However, this does
                      not give an elected member an
                      automatic right to have access to all
                      records held by Council as information
                      must be relevant to the performance
                      of an elected member’s role.
                      An elected member must not use
                      information obtained through their
                      role in order to gain a financial or
                      other advantage for themselves, a
                      relative or an associate, or to cause
                      detriment to the local government.
