Native Foresters
FIGURE 7: Northern Construction Zone - Remnant/regrowth sclerophyll open forest
C) Southern Fire Management Zone
• The vegetation in this area demonstrates general consistency with remnant sclerophyll
forest (Least concern RE 12.9-10.17 Eucalyptus acmenoides, E. major, E. siderophloia
+/- Corymbia citriodora subsp. variegata woodland on sedimentary rocks, which is
mapped immediately to the south and east).
• The remnant forest is dominated by tall Pink Bloodwood and Brushbox, with dbh of 200mm
to 800mm and heights of approximately 15-20m, occurring within the proposed fire
management zone.
• There are five significant native trees with a dbh of 500mm or more occurring within and
adjacent to the Fire Management Zone. A minimum of four of these trees should be
retained for their habitat, shading, and canopy connectivity values. These specimens are
as shown in Figure 3 and Appendix C
• The western end of the southern fire management zone contains a pond and riparian
vegetative buffer dominated by a Melaleuca salicina midstorey. Refer to Figure 8.
• The mid stratum consists of smaller trees, shrubs and vines including Alphitonia excelsa,
Macaranga tanarius, Lophostemon suaveolons, Pilidiostigma rhytispermum, and Smilax
australis.
• Native grasses occur in the understorey (e.g. Ottochloa sp, Oplismenus aemulus and
Imperata cylindrica, with some mown lawn grasses and weeds (e.g. Umbrella Tree and
Lantana).
• Proposed works may impact up to 1,100 m2 of native vegetation and grass areas within
the Southern Fire Management Zone.
