RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Project Officer to the Services & Organisation Committee
Meeting dated 6 October 2020 providing an update on the Go Noosa Schools Program.

REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the Go Noosa Schools Program.

1. Background

Go Noosa Schools has evolved from the Walk-and-Ride to School Program which was a voluntary
travel behaviour change program, aimed to encourage primary school children and their
parents/carers to walk, cycle, scoot, skateboard, catch the bus or carpool to school. The program
primarily focused on the delivery of cycle skills and ‘Walking, Wheeling Wednesdays’.

In February 2020, the Transport Steering Group endorsed the trial of the Go Noosa Schools
Program precinct approach. Due to COVID-19, the commencement of the trial program was
delayed until Term 3 of the 2020 school year.

The new look Go Noosa Schools program aims to:
 Create community awareness around school transport alternatives.
 Encourage behaviour change within the school community towards sustainable transport
     options.
 Reduce private car usage for the school commute, increasing road safety around schools.
 Reduce peak time congestion for the greater community.
 Raise awareness of the health and environmental benefits of active travel to school.
 Involve schools in developing school travel polices that benefit the whole precinct.
 Show positive impact from the program on nearby facilities.
 Manage customer complaints received.

The Noosaville school precinct, which includes Noosaville State School (prep to Year 6) and St
Teresa’s Catholic College (Year 7 to Year 12), was selected after consideration of the following:
 Selection Matrix to rank precincts which included:
     o     Ability to be delivered with one part-time resource;
