6 Construction and Earthworks Management Plan
This project will be constructed using standard construction materials and methods. The first stage of the
project will involve the clearing of vegetation across that part of the site designated for development.
Suitable erosion and sediment control measures (see the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan, Appendix C)
should be implemented on site prior to removal of vegetation.
It is proposed that that the part of site designated for earthworks is be stripped and cleared in one stage.
However, it is noted that various stands of native vegetation on the site are to be retained, and it is important
that the Construction Management Plan recognise this so that appropriate measures are adopted to protect
this vegetation. It is proposed that areas of vegetation to be retained be fenced off from other areas so that
there is a physical barrier to prevent damage/destruction of this vegetation during the construction phase.
Areas of vegetation to be retained are shown on drawing no J13041-CI-C02.
Prior to the commencement of earthworks, any topsoil will be stripped and removed from the construction
area. An average stripping depth of 200 mm should be achieved to allow removal of any organic material in
the surface layer. Large tree roots may require selective removal during site preparation.
Earthworks are expected to be undertaken using conventional equipment such as scrapers, large excavators
and trucks.
Fencing is to be installed prior to any earthworks commencing on the site to ensure that the covenant area
remains unaffected by construction activity. It is noted that some minor earthworks associated with road
construction will batter down into the covenant area at its southern end (see drawing no J13041-CI-C03). It
has been confirmed by expert site inspection that these works will not have a detrimental impact on any
existing vegetation of high value.
Earthworks construction will minimize dust emissions off-site by reducing earthwork activity during periods of
high winds, and ensuring that an on-site water cart is available at all times. A Construction Environmental
Management Plan has been prepared to control site activities during the construction phase and is included
as Appendix B.
A detailed Erosion and Sediment Control Plan is shown on drawing no J13041-CI-C05.
The preliminary earthworks for the site are shown on drawing nos J13041-CI-C03 and C04.
