Traffic Management Plan – 25040286
8.4 Implementing Traffic Guidance Schemes
As detailed by the MUTCD, AGTTM and The Code all personnel who install or dismantle TGS shall hold a
current Implement Traffic Guidance Scheme qualification. All traffic guidance schemes are implemented under
AGTTM Part 5 Short Term Low Impact Work sites or as described on the TGS and will generally follow the below
approach.
8.4.1 Implementation a TGS
• Determine points of reference and conduct a site-based
risk assessment.
• Install detours (if required) (e.g. setup detour prior to
closing road).
• Sign upside roads (if required) either sequentially,
before or after the road being worked on.
• Install signs on the road being worked on, taking into
account Lateral Shift or Contra-Flow, implement setup
on non-works side of the roadway first.
• Cover pre-existing conflicting signs as you go.
• Install remaining on road devices (e.g. cones, bollards,
delineators). `
• Perform implementation check (e.g. drive through).
8.4.2 Remove TGS
• Confirm work has ceased and ensure workers, plant
and equipment are off the roadway.
• Clear the road being worked on of devices (lateral
shift, contraflow must be removed, work area side 1st)
• Remove implemented signage from the road being
worked on. Work area is able to be opened to traffic.
• Reinstate pre-existing signage.
• Clear side roads of devices, signs and detour signs
and open side roads.
