WIL broadly describes opportunities for students to put theory into practice, develop personal and
professional skills, establish job networks, and find out what it’s like to work in your area of study.
USC and NSC will identify and promote WIL opportunities for USC students within NSC and the NSC
region. Such opportunities may include internships, practicums, placements, projects, wider field
experience, supervised professional experience, professional practice or work experience.
Professional Development
USC and NSC will share experience and expertise to identify professional development opportunities
for local government employees.
Research
Research describes the “creative and systematic work undertaken in order to increase the stock of
knowledge — including knowledge of humankind, culture and society — and to devise new
applications of available knowledge”.
Both parties acknowledge that coordinated research, development and innovation activities provide
a foundation for sound economic, social and environmental development. Together they will seek to
identify, promote and deliver research projects or activities that progress the economic, social and
environmental! development of the NSC region. Such research activities should include those that:
e Offer translational benefits to local industries such as, but not limited to, tourism;
e Increase local capacity to address complex issues through partnerships with initiatives such
as, but not limited to, the Noosa Biosphere; and
e Increase capacity of the NSC region’s research and innovation-led industries.
Engagement
Engagement describes the reciprocal process of exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge, skills and
resources to produce tangible beneficial outcomes. Both parties agree to work together to identify
and implement initiatives that will increase the scope and scale of activities that USC delivers in the
NSC region and align with regional priorities. Such activities may include, but are not limited to,
hosting events such as conferences and symposiums.
