Ecological Assessment Report
Attached to the e-mail MCU16/0081 Bushfire report, Survey, Ecological Assessment Report Email 2 of 3.
J000202-002-R-Rev1 June 2016
4.2 Surrounding Area
To the west of the Site (on the western side of Walter Hay Drive) is Noosa Civic Shopping Centre and
Noosaville industrial estate (Figure 1 – Site Location). Residential and industrial development continues to
the north of the Site along Eenie Creek Road. The landscape is dominated by urban development to the
north of the Site for approximately 2 km until Noosa River.
Noosa National Park bounds the eastern portion of the Site and continues for approximately 1.8 km prior to
Lake Weyba and tributaries of the Noosa River. South of the Site, approximately 600 m is Eenie Creek.
5.0 SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
The scope of this report is to undertake a comprehensive desktop assessment and preliminary field survey
of the proposed development site and immediate surrounding area.
The aim of the desktop assessment was to identify:
Significant species potentially utilising the Site or surrounding area
Habitat for significant species potentially utilising the Site
Vegetation Associations (Regional Eco-systems) potentially occurring on the Site
The presence of significant wetlands within the Site and immediate surrounding area
The habitat assessment and field survey aim was to ‘ground truth’ and confirm/supplement the ecological
values identified during the desktop assessment including:
Confirm Regional Ecosystem mapping of the Site
Undertake a habitat assessment of the vegetation present and the ‘condition’ of the habitat
Assess connectivity within the Site and surrounding area
Identify additional habitats and significant species potentially utilising the area
Assess the potential for those significant species identified during the desktop study, to occur within the
Site or immediate surrounding area
The preliminary ecological assessment included:
An identification of ecological values within the proposed development site
A list of significant species potentially occurring within the surrounding area (5 km radius)
An assessment of the likelihood of those significant species occurring within the proposed site and
immediate surrounding area
A preliminary identification of habitat and ecological values potentially occurring within the Site
An assessment of Koala habitat within the Site
Provide suitable information to allow for detailed design of further investigations to establish baseline
ecological values
