PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 FEBRUARY 2017
interests and business interests. The SEQ Council of Mayors facilitated eight meetings of the
project team and planning staff of the 11 relevant local governments.
The Sustainable Planning Act 2009 also requires the formation of a Regional Planning
Committee which for South East Queensland was made up of the Planning Minister (the Deputy
Premier) and the Mayors or delegates. The Regional Planning Committee was briefed on
several occasions during the preparation of the plan and at its launch.
Prior to preparing the draft ShapingSEQ, the government undertook preliminary community
consultation to obtain general views about the future of South East Queensland. This took place
during May and June 2016.
Statutory consultation of the draft ShapingSEQ commenced on 20 October 2016 and will
conclude on 3 March 2017. Community feedback has been facilitated by a website, distribution of
hard copies of the document and visits by state government officers to each of the local
government areas. Officers attended Noosa Shire on 30 November 2016.
Following the consultation period, the Queensland Government will proceed to consider
submissions and finalise a new regional plan. The final plan is likely to be released in mid-2017.
The government will then audit planning schemes to identify changes necessary to
accommodate the outcomes intended by the new regional plan.
Content of ShapingSEQ
Although more concise then the current South East Queensland Regional Plan, ShapingSEQ at
over 150 pages provides a great deal of information about the future of this region. The diagram
below illustrates the structure of the draft plan.
