11 ® Trees with koalas will not be removed until the koala has dispersed from the tree. The tree should be left overnight to enable the koala to move away. The tree is only to be removed following an inspection by the wildlife ecologist; ° The wildlife ecologist should inspect tree limbs to determine the presence/existence of tree hollows. In the event that denning fauna is observed in these limbs, a wildlife ecologist should remove the animal and re-locate it to a suitable release site (determined in consultation with QPWS) at an appropriate time of day; ® It is recommended that, where feasible, habitat trees not be drop felled, and a more appropriate and sensitive means of clearance for these trees be utilised eg. excavator; e Following tree felling, a second inspection of the target tree should be conducted to relocate any fauna disturbed by the clearing process or remaining within the felled timber; and e All injured animals should be immediately removed and taken to an appropriately qualified wildlife veterinary surgeon (eg. Noosa Veterinary Surgery, Tewantin). 3.5 PROVISION OF NEST-BOXES Suitable habitat for nesting (and the installation of nestboxes) for glossy black cockatoos is not extensive over the site. Generally, suitable areas for the installation of nestboxes are restricted to the High Density Residential, RF Thompson Environmental Park and public esplanade. As indicated by Council no nestboxes are to be installed in public areas, therefore the private open space for conservation and waterways protection associated with the High Density Residential area is the most suitable area. Nevertheless, a minimum of four boxes will be installed ie. 1-2 nestboxes (suitable for use by glossy black-cockatoos), 1-2 parrot (rosella, lorikeet), 1-2 arboreal mammal (glider, possum) and 1-2 micro- chiropteran bat boxes. The boxes will be fitted with suitable pest-deterrent options, where available. A reputable firm (eg. Australian Nestbox Company) will be contracted to provide the boxes and the location and installation will be determined in consultation with the wildlife ecologist (condition RHD 38, 52 & RSD 39, 53). The Australian Nestbox Company provides nestboxes at recognised standard dimensions for target fauna. Some hollow logs, hollow limbs and other felled timber will be relocated to suitable areas within the private open space for conservation and waterways protection. The location and number will be determined by the wildlife ecologist in consultation with Council. 3.6 FENCING 3.6.1 Residential Single Dwelling All fauna friendly fencing and the acoustic barrier designs are provided in the Landscape Master Plan. An acoustic fence along the rear boundary of lots 24-33 will be a solid structure (in accordance with noise remediation guidelines) with a minimum of five pairs of round treated FAUNA MANAGEMENT PLANSETTLER’S COVE DEVELOPMENT PTY LTD MAY 2005 R79130 (70934) C&B GROUP
