ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-4
Strategy: Prevent introduction of new weed species or proliferation of pests as a result of
ERP works and effectively control existing weed infestations.
and shall be made available to Council upon request.
8. Any topsoil, mulch (see below) and any other material brought onto the site is also to be certified
as weed, pest (including fire ant free) and disease free by the supplier.
9. All mulch produced on site by mulching cleared vegetation and trees shall specifically exclude
material from weed species. The wood of umbrella trees may be mulched but it is to be ensured
that no seeds are included. Vegetation which contains weeds (including umbrella tree seeds) is to
be disposed of at an approved Council facility.
10. Should additional mulch be required in the ERP areas, it is to be a forest mulch sourced from a
similar vegetation type.
11. Areas to be revegetated are to be completed under strict supervision to avoid unnecessary soil
disturbance.
12. Pest animal control measures, where necessary would be completed using suitable and
appropriate strategies as employed elsewhere within the Shire.
13. Washdown provisions for machinery coming from outside the North Coast area will apply prior
to entering the site. Washdown is to be conducted at an approved Council facility.
The ERP Contractor shall ensure mosquito populations do not significantly increase as a result of
ERP program activities by maintaining good site keeping practices which limits the number of areas
where water may pond and provide a location for mosquitoes to breed, such as open drums, on roofs
of site offices and in machinery. If mosquitoes are present and proving a health hazard or significant
nuisance, then a mosquito control agent, such as BTI or Methoprene may be applied with prior
approval of Council. No areas are to create a suitable breeding environment for cane toads.
Performance Requirement: No new weed species. All weeds previously occurring in ERP area to
be subjected to control measures indicated above. Weed control effectiveness to recognise the
intrinsic difficulties in complete removal in the site. No new or increase in pest species.
Monitoring and Maintenance: Monthly site inspection of ERP areas concentrating on edges of
RHD and RSL development areas and priority control areas. Maintenance period (4 year) and
procedures to be as defined in the ERP.
Reporting: Restoration Ecologist to report on weed species within the ERP site, areas subject to
control, control effectiveness and additional controls necessary. Certificates to be available for
nursery stock and soil material.
Corrective Action: Amend the weed control program in liaison with Restoration Ecologist and
Council weed control officer and Department of Natural Resources and Mines officer (as required).
