ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-5
Element 4: ERP Site Materials Handling and Waste
Management
Policy: To manage waste in accordance with the waste management hierarchy outlined in the
Environmental Protection (Waste Management) Policy 2000:
• waste avoidance
• waste re-use
• waste recycling
• energy recovery from waste
• waste disposal.
To dispose of cleared vegetation appropriately. To handle and store any chemicals and
any other potentially hazardous materials including fuels and oils in a manner that
minimises risk.
(refer Condition 21.3, EP Act and EPP for waste, NSC waste policy)
Strategy: Ensure the appropriate handling, storage and disposal of materials including
solid and liquid waste.
Responsibility: ERP Contractor and Restoration Ecologist
Management Actions:
1. Materials are to be located within the site area and not placed in a position subject to
concentrated stormwater runoff that may result in materials being washed onto the roadway or
into the stormwater system or protected habitat areas.
2. All construction sheds, skip bins, temporary water toilets, spoil, etc., shall be kept within the
property. No vehicles, skips or machines shall be permitted to stand on Council’s footpath.
3. Establish and maintain a hazardous substance register to be kept on-site, including Material
Safety Data Sheets. Register is to include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, fertilisers.
4. Where practicable, minimise the amount of fuel and oils stored on-site. Brushcutter and other
equipment refuelling should be carried out in location where any spillage can be effectively
contained and disposed of. Such areas will be determined by ERP Contractor and the Restoration
Ecologist.
5. Any fuel and oils stored on-site to be contained by watertight bunds or spill trays with adequate
capacity to prevent release to environment in the case of leaks or accidental spillage.
