DNRM Plant Fact Sheet - Fire Retardant Plants, Qld Govt. 2000 8.5 Supplement species - High Density Residential Building Envelopes Supplement species are generally only for special application areas and should be carefully integrated amongst plants listed as Primary Native species. They shail not be used in a formal presentation but rather be clumped in a random fashion that is conducive to a more natural layout. Supplement species may be used to present a tropical theme to specific areas. Exotic species will be limited in numbers (maximum 30% exotic to 70% native species content within planting areas ) and not be used in the same planting area as natives with differing nutrient requirements especially with plants from the Proteaceae family. They may only be used if a native supplement cannot achieve the desired aesthetic effect. Situations where the supplement species can be incorporated into the landscape are limited to: e Containerised / podium planting positions. e Internal gardens away from native bushland. e Poolside plantings and feature areas. Non indigenous species proposed to be incorporated into special application areas shall be assessed during operational works application and must not be prominent from surrounding Road Reserves or neighbouring properties.
