10, MULCHING PROCEDURES

Mulching of planted areas conserves water by retaining soil moisture, maintains even
soil temperature, reduces erosion, compaction and root disturbance, and suppresses
weed growth,

Mulch should be spread over entire planted area at a depth of 75 to 100mm and be
graded down to a nominal 20mm at 50mm from stems of plants to avoid collar rot.

Suggested Mulch Types:

Landscape Situation Mulch Type

Steep Areas or Embankments Bush Mulch (site produced)
or Hoop Pine mulch

High Profile Areas Bush Mulch (site produced)
or "Forest Blend"

Road Islands & Gardens Bush Mulch (site produced)
or “Forest Blend”

Fuel control areas, maintenance tracks Inorganic muich = Gravel,

steeper sections of swales & feature Pebbles etc.

Note: Given the nature of the development proposed in the Settlers Cove project,

site derived muich shall be utilised in preference to other types,

Hoop Pine Mulch should be reserved for steeper grades up to 1:3 which may occur in
the High Density Residential special planting areas only.

Areas that receive inorganic mulch treatments require a geofabric or approved material
that allows air and moisture penetration to line the soil before placement. Inorganic
mulch may be required to be used in Residential High Density Lots - Fuel control areas.
Assessment during operational works applications for these individual lots will be the
time that this possible requirement is determined.
