Ecological Assessment Report
3 - 7 Serenity Close, Noosa Heads

KOALA

The results of the desktop searches indicated that the site contains potential habitat for
the Koala, with records of the species from the surrounding locality.

Targeted Koala survey indicated that no evidence of koala scat was detected on site,
suggesting that the site is not currently used nor has recently been used by any individual
Koala.

Overall, the proposed change will result in the additional retention of approximately 5558
sqm of the mapped core Koala habitat areas. Furthermore, the proposed change will
maintain physical connectivity to habitat adjacent to the site, which will allow for safe
Koala movement across ecological linkages. Consequently, the proposed change does not
result in any significant habitat loss or loss of shelter / foraging habitat and will result in a
net positive impact.

GLOSSY BLACK COCKATOO

The results of the desktop searches indicated that the site contains potential habitat for
the Glossy Black Cockatoo (and subspecies), with records of the species from the
surrounding locality.

The results of the targeted survey suggested that none of the Allocasuarina trees within
the assessable area were active feed trees for Glossy Black Cockatoo. A systematic search
beneath the entire canopy of all Allocasuarina trees within the assessable area indicated
no presence of orts.

Overall, the proposed change will result in the retention of additional habitat trees for the
Glossy Black Cockatoo. Additionally, the proposed change will maintain physical
connectivity to habitat adjacent to the site. The proposed change is unlikely to have a
significant impact on Glossy Black Cockatoos as there will be no clearing of any known 11
feed trees. Consequently, the proposed change does not result in any significant habitat
loss or loss of shelter / foraging habitat and will result in a net positive impact.

5.3.2 NOOSA PLAN 2020

As identified in Section 3.3, the site is mapped as containing an Area of Biodiversity
Significance on the Biodiversity, Waterways and Wetlands Overlay Map. Levels of
acceptable impacts on vegetation are determined via assessment against the overall
outcomes and relevant performance criteria under the Biodiversity, Waterways and
Wetlands code.

An assessment of the proposal against the relevant performance outcomes has been
carried out and is contained in Appendix 9. Subject to implementation of the management

11 Based on results of the 2022 – 2023 field investigations.
