2. Extension of the Expiry of Part 2A and Chapter 5A
The legislation provided that Part 2A section 7 and Chapter 5A were to expire 30 June 2017.
Several weeks before the expiry the repeal of the legislation was extended to 30 June 2018. This
is the 3rd occasion that the repeal has been extended due to several reasons which include:
Local Government extensively lobbying State Government not to repeal the section
because it will require 70 Local Governments to provide individual local laws to specify
waste collection areas and how waste is to be handled.
Local Government had not developed replacement local laws due to the ongoing lobbying
with the state and there would be no legislative control over waste collection if the
legislation was repealed.
