                4.3.           Animal welfare
           The clearing of native vegetation has a high potential of negatively impacting fauna and may lead to
           distress, injury, illness, orphanage, predation or death of fauna.
           Table 7 Strategies to manage animal welfare

                                          • Ensure that works are timed to occur outside of the breeding season of fauna
                                          • A suitably qualified Fauna Spotter Catcher is to undertake a pre-clearance
                                              survey within 1 week of works commencing, to identify any potential animal
                                              welfare issues (for example, active nests). Management strategies should be
                                              discussed, including how clearing can be conducted to minimize the risk to
                                              fauna.
                                          • Implement habitat enhancements (i.e., nest boxes) in areas outside of the
                                              cleared area before vegetation clearing.

                                       During Works:
                                          • Ensure that the management strategies in section 4.4 – Movement of Fauna
                                              are implemented and followed by all personnel
                                          • Relocation and fauna handling must only be carried out by personnel with a
                                              current site-specific Damage Mitigation Permit (DMP) and Animal
                                              Rehabilitation Permit (ARP) from Queensland Department of Environment and
                                              Science.
                                          • Fauna spotter catchers are required to relocate injured wildlife to the closest
                                              designated veterinary clinic. There are 3 clinics near the site. Orphaned
                                              Wildlife, for example unhatched bird eggs may be relinquished to a suitably
                                              qualified wildlife carer.
                                          • The location and contact details of each veterinary clinic and nominated wildlife
                                              carers are to be kept in an accessible location at the site office. All personnel
                                              are to be inducted on how to find this information, in the event that an animal
                                              is injured on or in the vicinity of the site and no fauna spotter catcher is present
                                              (for example, after vegetation clearing has been completed)

                                           •   Invasive and introduced fauna are to be managed / dealt with ethically by the
                                               Fauna Spotter Catcher. This may include taking the animal to the nearest
                                               veterinary clinic for euthanasia.
