PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 DECEMBER 2021
Water Constituent Original WQ Data to Proposed Comment
2004 Objectives
20,50,80 %iles 20,50,80 %iles
2010 WQO’s
(8,12,22) Because turbidity in this section of the Lake has already been
attributed to the resuspension of sediments that have
historically washed into Lake Cootharaba, and it is infeasible to
manage, recommend maintaining the 2004 quality here.
*This could have implications on our report card score –
because we know the current situation is worse than 2004
measurements, but at least it is truthful of the protectory of the
situation – and could provide greater drive for supporting ESC
management in the rural areas where report card scores reveal
the issue here.
Total Suspended na 3, 10, 30 While it is practical and relevant for reasons outlined for
Solids 5,15,40 Turbidity- 40 is quite close to the construction site release limit
(7,14,25) of 40 which also is an undesirable perception. To substitute
2004 data, it could be useful to make a correlation of TSS
against Turbidity for these waters – and scale back to expected
TSS relative to Turbidity for the 2004 turbidity/TSS
measurements – and then is the scales TSS in 2004 is lower
than 40 please use that.
Lake Cootharaba Total Suspended Low: 3, 9, 29 Low:3, 9, 30 The 80th %iles are facilitating a creep in the upper limits.
Section 2 Solids High:6,13,43 High:6, 13, 45 Recommend for 2004 values to be applied here for same
(7, 14, 25) reason as Section 1 Turbidity comment.
Teewah Creek, Total Nitrogen Low: 314, 400, 630 Low:160, 220, 320 Improvement of the situation and can be supported. The
Upper Noosa (Low Flow upper High: 368, 630, 734 High:300, 360, 470 provision of 50th%iles will offset the minor increase upper limit
River, and limit 300)
Northern Noosa Ammonia Low: 5, 22, 49 Low:6, 8, 15 While 80th %ile for low flows exceed the 2010 limit, the overall
(Low Flow upper High:17, 56, 120 High:5, 16, 18 objectives seek an improvement compared to 2004 situation
limit 10) and can be supported.
Kin Creek / Oxidised Nitrogen – Not applicable. The spread sheet proposes median values well
Cootharaba please confirm the below 60 ug/L and 2010 limits.
dataset this was
sourced from has a
median oxidised
nitrogen value of 60
ug/L.
