PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 MARCH 2023

Stakeholder Nominations - the Noosa Nine
Ten (10) key regional stakeholder groups formed an Expert Panel to nominate the Noosa Nine.
This was achieved through completing a Decision Matrix, which scored the 29 shortlisted species
against threating processes to biodiversity (e.g., climate change). This process determined the
final nine species for priority management – the Noosa Nine.
Results – the Noosa Nine
To deliver an integrated approach, the methodology of the Road Map ensured the Noosa Nine
species selected are representative of and reflect the proportional coverage of key habitat types
across the Noosa Shire. On completion of the Stakeholder Consultation Program, the results from
the Expert Panel members were collated to determine the nine highest scoring species (the Noosa
Nine), see Figure 1 below.
Figure 1 - Expert Panel nominations determining the Noosa Nine

The Road Map and Stakeholder Consultation Program nominates the following species list (the
Noosa Nine) for management priorities under Strategy 1.3 of the NES:
 Giant barred frog (Mixophyes iteratus)
 Glossy black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami)
 Greater glider (Petauroides polans)
 Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)
 Tusked frog (Adelotus brevis)
 Mary River turtle (Elusor macrurus)
 Acid frogs (Wallum froglet, rocket frog and sedge frog)
 Water mouse (Xeromys myoides)
 Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)
Management Priorities
Management priorities (implementation) of the Noosa Nine will be based on several key
considerations including:
 A species conservation advice / listing
 Current and foreseeable threats impacting a species
 Available funding streams
 Opportunities to complement other Council environmental programs and initiatives.
