Pre-feasibility Study April 2016
speakers, session presenters, etc.
New opportunities for local entertainment industry to provide conference
evening entertainment
New work based around event needs – graphic design, decorating, hire
(technical and costume), marketing, public relations, advertising and
printing etc.
Shift in accommodation capacity demand to higher-value custom
Spare capacity of product and services tourism sector e.g. hire and tours,
is taken up by delegate partners programs organised by PCOs or direct
bookings
Employment stability as demand peaks and troughs are progressively
flattened
Stability in rental market for employees
Paddock to plate/ offsite food catering services to provide par
prepared/portion controlled menu items
Greater demand for regional farm products
Increased demand for offsite delegate ‘experiences’ – tourism operators,
tours, transfers
Attraction of high end technical specialists to region to support centre and
conference organisers high end technical needs
a. Given the current paucity of Convention Centre facilities on the Sunshine
Regional Coast, exacerbated by the recent closure of the previously-branded Hyatt
Business Coolum Resort and Nambour Civic Centre, an additional facility of this size is
likely to be well-received across the Region and would reflect well on an
Collaboration innovative Council seen to provide a substantial infrastructure project for the
benefit of future generations.
b. It is substantially smaller than the proposed 4,500-seat Sunshine Coast
Entertainment, Convention & Exhibition Centre, and also has a more
segmented focus on the high-yield segments within the MICE sector. This
segmentation should reduce competitive bidding between each facility.
Further, any accommodation demand not met within the Shire is likely to be
served by accommodation providers elsewhere on the Sunshine Coast,
thereby delivering a direct economic benefit from the operation of the
proposed Noosa Convention Centre
c. The proposed dual purpose Centre is supported by the 3 major Noosa
Resorts33, as it will not compete by including accommodation. Secondly, it will
enable the joint-bidding of the Convention Centre and one or more of those
Resorts for larger conferences which currently cannot be serviced.
a. The Team was advised to carefully consider whether the Venue should be
Venue Council-managed or Board-managed34. Other options are 100% privately
Management owned and operated; or Council/Govt owned with private company
33
