                                  Residential Aged Care Facility – 6 Grasstree Court, Sunrise Beach

After the Event
In a situation where evacuation has occurred on the basis of Extreme and/or Catastrophic fire
weather but no ignition in proximity to the facility has taken place, occupants may only return when
the fire danger rating drops to Very High, for consecutive days (i.e. occupants should not return if
periods of Extreme and/or Catastrophic fire weather are again forecast after single days of lower
severity).

In an instance where a fire event has actually occurred, it is important to first understand whether
the facility has been damaged or impacted before facilitating the return of any occupants. The
facilities management team may need to arrange for necessary inspections. This may determine
when occupants can return.

The overall emergency plan for the facility includes occupant repatriation processes. Returning the
facility may also prove a stressful situation to some occupants just as much as evacuating, and their
psychological and physical health may require consideration.

The EPC may wish to convene a meeting to discuss the event and how it unfolded as an opportunity
implement continuous improvement measures. It may also be discussed whether a whole-of-facility
meeting is convened to allow occupants to share their stories and access support from the wider
community. Such recovery approaches may help occupants to move on after an event. If particular
trauma is evident, opportunities to facilitate emotional and mental health support for occupants is
recommended.
