Noosa River - Sediment Sampling Report
BMT (OFFICIAL)
4 Data Validation
̶
4.1 Laboratory QA/QC
Details of the laboratory QA/QC for the primary and secondary laboratories are provided in Annex E
and Annex F, respectively. A summary of this assessment is provided in the following sections. Refer to
Section 2.6 for a description of laboratory QA/QC procedures.
Limits of Reporting (LORs)
LORs used by the primary laboratory (ALS) were below relevant PQLs for most parameters (as per
NAGD) except PAHs. The LOR for PAHs was higher than the target PQL, however this is not an issue
as the NAGD screening level for sum of PAHs (10mg/kg) is higher than the LOR (0.5 mg/kg) used.
Sample Holding Times and Storage Conditions
All samples were received by the laboratories in appropriately pre-treated and preserved containers.
Samples were chilled with ice whilst in the field and during delivery (ice packs). All analyses were
undertaken by the laboratories within recommended holding times for the parameters assessed for
relative standard deviation (RSD).
Laboratory Blanks
Results indicated that the laboratory/method blank assessment was within the acceptable criteria.
Laboratory Duplicates
Results indicated that laboratory duplicates were within the permitted ranges for the Relative Percent
Deviation (RPD). The exceptions were:
• Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (22.4%) (Anonymous sample) which was outside the 0%-20% RPD.
Surrogate and Matrix Spikes
Laboratory Control Spikes (LCS) were within the acceptance limits for all parameters. Matrix spikes
(MS) were within the acceptable limits for all parameters. The exceptions were:
• Total Phosphorus as P (Anonymous sample) (MS recovery not determined)
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons C6 - C9 Fraction (Anonymous sample) (61.8%, which was outside
the 70-130% recovery limit range)
• Total Recoverable Hydrocarbons C6 - C10 Fraction (Anonymous sample) (54.4%, which was
outside the 70-130% recovery limit range)
• BTEXN Benzene(Anonymous sample) (60.3%, which was outside the 70-130% recovery limit
range)
• BTEXN Toluene (Anonymous sample) (61.8%, which was outside the 70-130% recovery limit
range).
