Noosa River - Sediment Sampling Report
BMT (OFFICIAL)
3 Results
̶
3.1 Core Lengths
Sediment logs of the sampled sediments are included in Annex B and photos of the sediments cores
are included in Annex C. Detailed laboratory results are provided in Annex D and Annex F for the
primary and secondary laboratory, respectively. Note: Laboratory results for the SAP are donated by
BH1, BH2 etc. in laboratory reports. Sample results for studies undertaken in parallel with this SAP are
denoted as BHS1, BHS2 etc in laboratory reports.
The target depth was met at all sites other than BH2. The target core depths are shown in Table 3.1.
Table 3.1 Target and Obtained Core Depths
Core Location Target Core Length (m) Reason for refusal
BH1 0.6 Reached target depth
BH2 1.2 Core refusal met at surface*
BH3 2.7 Reached target depth
BH4 1.1 Reached target depth
BH5 1.7 Reached target depth
BH6 0.7 Reached target depth
BH7 0.8 Core refusal met at surface#
BH8 1.4 Reached target depth
BH9 1.4 Reached target depth
BH10 0.4 Reached target depth^
Notes:
* At site BH2, three attempts were made to obtain a core at this location. Each of the first three attempts were made on
the GPS coordinate provided in the SAP. Following this failure, the field team attempted to move the site, within
approximately 20m of the original site, both upstream and downstream, however were unable to obtain a core at any
new site as core refusal was met at the surface. Given a sample could not be taken from a reasonable distance from
the proposed site, a new GPS point was made 100m downstream. This area was similarly difficult to vibracore, but
yielded a shallow sample of a gravely surface overlaying a very firm white clay. Given a sample could not be taken from
a reasonable distance from the proposed site, only a surface sample was collected and analysed for particle size
distribution. Analysis showed that the physical properties of the sample had larger amounts of gravel (~16%) which is
the likely reason for core refusal.
# At site BH7 similar sediment properties at site BH2 were encountered when attempting to sample. This area was
difficult to vibracore, but yielded a shallow sample of a gravely surface overlaying a very firm white clay. No analysis
was taken on this sample.
^ Site BH10 was moved marginally by ~10m as a boat was moored over the proposed sampling location.
