ORDINARY MEETING AGENDA 18 OCTOBER 2018
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide details and options of the proposed peak period traffic
management plan between 15 December 2018 and 28 January 2019.
It is recognised that the peak holiday period traffic congestion is a major cause of frustration to
both residents and visitors entering and departing the Noosa Heads area. These short term
proposals align with the 2017-2027 Transport Strategy principles and are designed as short term
initiatives to trial managing peak period traffic whilst maintaining a Noosa look and feel.
1. Free Holiday Buses
Peak holiday period - 26 December 2018 to 6 January 2019
Consistent with previous years, the following five Noosa-specific TransLink services are
recommended for inclusion in the peak period free holiday buses initiative from 26 December 2018
to 6 January 2019:
Route 626 – Tewantin to Sunrise Beach via Noosa Heads
Route 627 – Tewantin to Sunshine Beach via Noosa Heads
Route 628 – Noosa Parklands to Noosa Junction, via Noosa Civic
Route 629 – Tewantin to Noosa Junction via Noosa Civic
Route 632 – Noosa to Cooran via Cooroy and Pomona
In order to offer a free service to residents between Peregian Beach and Noosa Heads, the
following additional bus service is recommended:
064 – Peregian Beach to Noosa Heads bus from 8am to 6pm
In previous years, the Boreen Point - Tewantin Flexilink and Council Cabs services have been
included in the program and provided free of charge to passengers. It is proposed to again include
these services as part of the program
Statistics for this service have identified that the use of the Free Holiday Buses are increasing and
they are a key initiative for providing residents and visitors with an alternative experience to vehicle
use with likely peak period congestion. Refer figures below:
