4. ISSUES AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
The vegetation which will be cleared is heavily disturbed and not representative of any prescribed
ecological community, and clearing will therefore not impact on any threatened ecological community,
threatened flora, terrestrial or arboreal fauna, or migratory fauna. Vegetation clearing and earthworks
is also not expected to impact on mapped regulated vegetation areas or wildlife habitat.
To reduce potential adverse impacts on fauna during vegetation clearing works, Pre-Clearance habitat
and fauna assessments should be conducted, as well as employing a trapping program to reduce
fauna load prior to works commencing. To limit on-going and long-term ecological impacts, Base
Architecture should consider installation of suitable nest boxes into retained habitat. This will attract
fauna species to the area and enhance ongoing ecological integrity of native vegetation at the Site
and in adjacent bushland.
The sections below outline strategies to manage the impacts of vegetation clearing and associated
works on native fauna and their habitat, as well as the responsibilities of personnel involved in the
works. The management issues and impact strategies are relevant to all fauna and threatened species
which are known to occur on the Site or have the possibility of occurring. All vegetation clearing,
mulching and grubbing must occur in the presence of a suitably qualified Fauna Spotter Catcher (FSC,
see Table 5 for details).
4.1. Presence of CREVNT Fauna
As detailed in Table 1, the clearing area does not contain suitable habitat to support any fauna
species of conservation significance. However, listed species such as the Tusked frog and Koala
are expected to occur in the surrounding vegetation and may be encountered during works.
Strategies to manage their presence and mitigate adverse impacts are outlined below.
Table 3. Strategies to manage the presence of CREVNT fauna
Issue Presence of CREVNT fauna within the development area
Management Reduce direct and indirect effects on Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) and other CREVNT
objective fauna that may occur.
Requirements Before works:
to implement
• All personnel are to attend a pre-start meeting and be familiar with this FMP.
• Tree protection and no-go zones must be clearly delineated and communicated
to all personnel.
• A suitably qualified FSC must assess vegetation to be cleared and the
surrounding area for Koalas (and other CREVNT and Least Concern fauna) as
part of a pre-clearance assessment.
During works:
• A register of all fauna encountered is to be maintained and updated daily by the
FSC/Ecologist.
• A register of all breeding places encountered and tampered with is to be
maintained and updated daily by the FSC/Ecologist.
• The FSC must continually assess the Site for Koalas:
