SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 9 FEBRUARY 2021
Pros Cons
Moderate changes to service levels or delivery Declining return on investment - High Capital and
for customers (Business As Usual) Operating costs and declining usage
No redundancy or redeployment of staff required Continued challenges with maintaining skilled driver
operators (HC license required) who are also able to
provide library customer service
Continued community access to large library Continued issues with maintaining large vehicle
collection and space for browsing and gathering
Very large vehicle with poor manoeuvrability – very
limited ability to visit other locations and trial new
stops
Some existing stops may not be able to be serviced
due to ongoing access issues e.g. Peregian Beach
and Sunrise Shops
Continued WH&S issues with library staff needing to
operate heavy vehicle
Significant legislative requirements and
responsibilities
Option 3 – Replace with Community Outreach Library Service Model
This option proposes to replace the current Mobile
of alternative service have begun with key stakeholders at the Federal School. Alternative Library
service with a combination of different library service elements including:
A smaller, more versatile vehicle travelling around the shire on a weekly schedule
Two library ‘book-vending’ kiosks, located at Pomona and Peregian
Bulk library loans to partner organisations
A suite of library programs and workshops hosted at community organisations throughout
the shire
This option includes a number of service elements that would remain the same as current service
levels, including:
A weekly service to Boreen Point, Cooran, Kin Kin, Noosa Junction, Peregian Beach,
Pomona and Sunrise Beach where users can continue to borrow, browse, return and pick
up reservations.
A regular gathering place to meet and connect with friends though the weekly service
The ability to use the service out of the weather i.e. walk inside the vehicle and the new
alfresco area.
Users would continue to have access to Wi-Fi and the internet
The same friendly and professional staff would be available to provide personalised
assistance and reader-advisory services.
Service elements that would change include:
Improved access to library items through the new 24/7 library kiosks at Pomona and
Peregian Beach.
The ability to attend a library program outside of a library branch within local communities
The new option to book the service to come to a community event or organisation.
A new service for Federal that would better suit its needs. Initial discussions on the type
services may include a bulk loan of library items and/or a schedule of programs suitable for
the students learning needs.
