5.6.8 Intersection 8: Walter Hay Drive/Southern Access
The intersection of Walter Hay Drive/Southern Access is currently functioning as a two-way roundabout with
two circulating lane widths, under the authority of the Noosa Council. It is proposed to develop the Southern
Access as a third leg to the west of Walter Hay Drive. The most recent aerial imagery of the intersection is
shown alongside the analysed intersection form of the proposed layout on Figure 5-13. Results for the
analysis of the proposed layout are summarised in Table 5-14.
The background traffic volumes for this intersection assess the functionality of the current two-way layout
with traffic volumes travelling in the through movement of the roundabout. As the addition of the third leg to
the intersection of the Southern Access will be constructed with the development, only development traffic
volumes from 2018 are applicable to the proposed layout of this intersection.

The results in Table 5-14 indicate that the proposed layout has adequate capacity for both the background
and development scenarios at the 2028 design horizon.
