The NLC has four major operating streams:
program operations
group fitness program
café/retail operations
general operations.
The revenue shortfall of $4,572 was largely due to a change in programming following the
original development of the budget. With the Jump Bunch program no longer running, associated
revenue falls short by $8,571, however revenue of $4,569 was generated by using the Jump
Bunch room as a kids’ play room instead. The remaining Jump Bunch shortfall of $4,000 was
offset by casual and relief salary labour savings as no instructor costs were incurred.
Management will continue to market the Jump Bunch room for casual use, including children’s
parties, and if revenue remains less than forecast at the end of the second quarter, will seek an
adjustment in BR3.
Venue hire and special events revenue missed projections by a combined $4,921. $1,238 of this
can be attributed to a cancelled roller derby event with the remainder coming as a result of
budget profiling being a little out. Therefore we are confident of recovering a majority of this
shortfall over coming months.
The Group Fitness Program has had a favourable start to the year, generating a net profit of
$2,652. This is encouraging when compared to the same period last year, which incurred a loss
of $3,444. Group fitness attendance numbers for this quarter have increased by 11% compared
to the same period last year.
The café also made a strong start to the year, finishing the quarter $5,741 ahead of its budgeted
position. A majority of the positive variance came as a result of revenue exceeding budget by
$4,081 due to high centre attendance numbers.
