GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 15 APRIL 2019

                                                -5-
contribution of land for a satellite depot in or around Noosaville to reduce ‘dead running’
operational costs. Further, the Noosa Plan has flagged a public transport hub opportunity at
the Shire Business Centre which may provide a link between future demand responsive
transit which may be able to better serve the hinterland communities and high frequency
services connecting with the Tewantin to Noosa Junction corridor.
Request: Include action to undertake a public transport network review to
ensure a fit for purpose transit system for Noosa, including
consideration of a satellite bus depot, demand responsive transit
alternatives, a future Shire Business public transit hub and an
increase to the span of hours of high frequency services operating on
the Tewantin to Noosa Junction corridor.
Council has progressed planning for the provision of park ‘n’ ride capacity within the Noosa
area. Noosa Traffic and Parking Surveys in 2018 showed that while parking shortages occur
at peak times in the Hastings Street area, there is still parking availability in Noosa Junction.
The ‘Go Noosa’ Xmas trialencouraged long stay parking in Noosa Junction along with other
locations. Council is keen to further explore additional temporary park ‘n’ ride capacity at
Noosa Junction and the future Shire Business Centre.

Request: Council requests TransLink consider additional temporary park ‘n’ ride
capacity at Noosa Junction and a park ‘n’ ride facility within the future
Shire Business Centre transport hub when progressing Action A2.06
to undertake strategic planning to identify locations suitable for major
                          park ‘n’ ride capacity expansions.
Council is supportive of action A2.01 regarding bus station and stop upgrade planning, and
request that Noosa Heads Bus Station upgrade be included in the list of early priorities given
the current condition of the facility in particular in terms of equitable access and dated
infrastructure,. A significant amount of design work for this project has been completed to
date, documenting the upgrade of the bus station to provide linear bus bays, improving
operational efficiency and safety as well as the provision of additional shelters, seating, semi
covered walkways, enhanced lighting and landscaping to improve the passenger experience
of this facility. While it is acknowledged that this design work would need to be reviewed
given the passage of time, it provides a good basis for progressing this operationally
     beneficial project.
Request: Include Noosa Heads bus station upgrade within A2.01.
Council has been very interested in the introduction of an electric bus fleet for the Noosa
area for some time and this is referenced in the Noosa Transport Strategy 2017 — 2027.
In light of the commentary in section 2.3.2 around the opportunity to harness new technology
including electric vehicles within the plan, the plan could specifically reference a trial to
introduce an electric bus fleet for South East Queensland. Council believes that Noosa is
well position to support further investigations for a trial — given both Council's support and
the fact that the local bus operator is owned by the Transit Australia Group which has a bus
manufacturing arm, Bus Tech that has been involved in the production of electric buses.
Request: Include an action to further investigate the introduction of an electric
                          bus fleet.
