The Asset Planning Manager, Infrastructure Services, has indicated that the proposed audit of the
existing plaques and memorials can be accomplished utilising existing resources and will not require
a budget allocation.

Risks & Opportunities
The proposed Plaques and Memorials Policy and supporting Guideline provide a framework for the
more effective, efficient, consistent and transparent management of plaques and memorials in public
spaces. It provides an opportunity for Council to deliver outcomes that are equitable and in the best
interests of the broader community and Noosa’s public spaces and that make best use of Council
resources and ratepayer funds.

The policy reduces the risk of inconsistent decision making that could result in customer complaints
or community upset. It also provides a mechanism for the effective management of plaques and
memorials in public spaces that ensures public spaces do not become cluttered, unsightly, or de
facto cemeteries.

Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
No specific external consultation was undertaken in the development of the Policy, however, officers
considered the community input which has been provided through other avenues including through
the handling of requests for memorials and through other Council community consultation processes
such The Noosa Plan, Cultural Plan and the Noosaville Foreshore Land Use Master Plan.
