Threatening processes and their management

There are a number of invasive weeds species present that have the potential to disrupt
ecological processes within the bushland section of your property. Appendix 3 provides
a full list of invasive species present. Of these the priority weeds for controlling are:

Broad leaved Pepper Tree. (Schinus terebinthifolius). An invasive tree found near the
dam. Cut off at ground level and paint the cut stem with a 50:50 Glyphosate water mixture.

Camphor laurel (Cinnamomum camphora). Stem inject any Camphor trees growing with
native trees using a 50:50 Glyphosate water mixture.

Brazilian Nightshade (Solanum seaforthianum) An invasive vine with red berries. Hand
remove.

Lantana (Lantana camara). Small plants can be hand removed. Larger plants can be cut
off at ground level and paint the cut stem with a 50:50 Glyphosate water mixture.

Corky Passionfruit Vine (Passiflora suberosa) An invasive vine. Hand remove.

Pest fact sheets are attached for these weed species. As discussed under the Land for
Wildlife incentive Council can offer training in weed control on your property. This will be
advertised in the August newsletter.

For general information on weed control methods please refer to “Note EW2 Weed
Control Methods” in your Land for Wildlife booklet. Always read the chemical labels
before using any herbicides and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
such as gloves and face masks when using herbicides.
Follow up weed control is necessary and should be scheduled in as a maintenance task.
After primary weed control monitor weed regrowth and continue to control weeds
appropriately. The aim is to exhaust the soil weed seed reservoir and over time the native
species will gradually occupy the niches left by the removed weeds.
