Geotechnical Investigation
PROPOSED CALILE HOTEL NOOSA DEVELOPMENT
3 – 7 SERENITY CLOSE, NOOSA HEADS

4.2 Topography
During the site walk-over, topographic features were noted, and ground slopes were recorded using a hand-
held clinometer. As illustrated in Text Figure 7, the site is located on the southerly and south-east facing
flanks of an inland dune which crests along Serenity Close to the north.
Based on a visual assessment it appeared that minor cut and fill earthworks (<0.5 m depth/height) had been
undertaken across the northern part of the site to create the existing site features (i.e. access tracks and
existing buildings). A cutting was observed along the northern frontage, ranging up to about 0.5 m high and
dipping at about 28°.
Most of the proposed development area comprised gently to moderating sloping ground ranging between
about 8° to 12°. Steeper gradients were recorded in the southern-eastern part of the site, generally beyond
the proposed development footprint, which range up to about 20°. A steeply incised drainage feature was
observed adjacent to the south-eastern corner of the site, with gradients up to 30°. No irregular surface
features were noted which would indicate global slope instability.
