Geotechnical Investigation
PROPOSED CALILE HOTEL NOOSA DEVELOPMENT
3 – 7 SERENITY CLOSE, NOOSA HEADS
4.3 Geology
Available geological information 1 indicates that the site is underlain by “man-made deposits of gravel, sand
and silt being generally associated with land-fill or mining” (Ref: Text Figure 8); however, the site is in close
proximity to Pleistocene age dune sand deposits. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered in the
investigation and our experience with the surrounding area, the site is underlain by the dune sand deposits.

4.4 Subsurface Conditions
Detailed descriptions of the subsurface conditions encountered in the boreholes are provided in the
borehole reports attached in Appendix A, along with definition sheets which describe terms and
abbreviations used on the reports. DCP results are also provided on the borehole logs. Subsurface
conditions encountered in the boreholes are summarised as follows:
Fill – was encountered in all boreholes except BH4 and BH9 to depths of between 0.1 to 0.7 m
BGL, comprising mostly very loose to medium dense gravel/silty sandy or very dense sandy gravel
(BH5 and BH6 only); then or from the ground surface
Natural Sands – initially being very loose to loose to depths between 0.2 m and 1.2 m BGL, then
medium dense, becoming dense (or denser) below depths between 1.9 m and 3.7 m BGL to the
borehole/DCP termination depths.
Table 1 below summarises the subsurface profile in each borehole.
