density eucalypt canopy and the prevalence of rainforest flora in the midstorey and understorey. Fuel
loads had been actively reduced in the north of Area 3. The areas of regrowth Melaleuca
quinquenervia and Lophostemon suaveolens over Gahnia aspera (which is a particularly flammable
species) probably offer the highest concentrations of flammable surface and shrub ladder fuels in
Area 3.
Surface fuels were noticeably drier and therefore more prone to ignition in the disturbed parts of Area
3, of which there are several, which have been subject to past clearing impacts.
The following vegetation hazard classes (classified in accordance with BRC 2019) were associated
with Area 3 and its surrounds:
      •    Vegetation Hazard Class 3.1 - Notophyll vine forest;
      •    Vegetation Hazard Class 8.1 – Wet eucalypt tall open forest;
      •    Vegetation Hazard Class 41.4 – Continuous low grass or tree cover in built up areas;
      •    Vegetation Hazard Class 42.6 – Nil to very low vegetation cover; and
      •    Vegetation Hazard Class 43.6 - Water bodies or very low vegetation cover.

2.4       Area 4

2.4.1      Land Uses
Area 4 was previously assigned a VHC 9.1 Moist to dry eucalypt open forest classification however
following several years of above average rainfall and subsequent development of a clearly dominant
vineforest mid storey and understorey, it has now been assigned a VHC 8.1 Wet eucalypt tall open
forest. Area 4 is set within a narrow (20-30m width), shallow gully flanked by housing to the north
and south and the golf course to the east. Noosa Springs Drive flanks the western end of the
vegetation unit and fragments it from a north south aligned narrow roadside corridor of vegetation.
