ORDINARY MEETING AGENDA 15 AUGUST 2019
2 OTHER ISSUES
There are some other activities which are worth highlighting:
We have continued to build good working relationships with our northern neighbours, Gympie
Regional Council. This has included regular meetings at a Mayoral and executive level, assisting
each other with relevant documentation and policies, support for interview panels, potential joint
contracting and sharing operational services across our borders etc. The respective CEOs also
provide periodic mutual assistance for each other’s Audit & Risk Committees.
We continue to attract significant interest from other councils as to how we are successfully
delivering good outcomes to our community. We have hosted councils from interstate looking at
our ICT solutions, hosted local government CEOs from remote parts of Queensland and hosted
other professionals looking at our work practices. In July 2018, we hosted the National Local
Government Chief Officers Group with approximately 80 CEOs from across Australia visiting our
Shire to look at how we have achieved our successes.
3 CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITES
We can’t rest on our laurels. There is always more to do. The key areas of focus for 2019/20 will
include:
Ongoing implementation of our Transport Strategy. The challenge is that our Go Noosa strategy
has been successful in getting more people on public transport, cycling or walking in peak holiday
periods but with little discernible impact on congestion;
Continuing to work with our community via the Sustainable Tourism Stakeholder Reference
Group to plan for the future by ensuring that we have a sustainable tourism sector that takes into
account the aspirations of local residents, business and visitors alike;
Continuing to lobby the State Government to upgrade Beckmans Road at Noosaville and also
improve two problem intersections at Cooroy;
Successful completion of a large capital expenditure program including projects such as the
construction of the Peregian Beach Community House at Rufous Street, Peregian Beach and
the proposed Hinterland Park at Cooroy;
Finalise the new Noosa Planning Scheme including resolving high profile associated issues such
as short-term online accommodation, advertising signage and the climate change adaptation
plan;
Continue to lobby the State government to resolve the issue of the under-utilised TAFE building
at Tewantin; and
Undertake a Council wide Workforce Planning Strategy to manage challenges associated with
an ageing workforce.
