EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Planning & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 19 August 2104 and:
A. Continue its membership of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) with ongoing membership to be
reviewed annually as part of the budget process;
B. Appoint Mayor Playford as its representative to the Council of Mayors (SEQ) with
Councillor Abbot as the Mayor’s representative if the Mayor is unable to attend; and
C. Authorise the Mayor to appoint representatives to any Council of Mayors (SEQ)
Committees or Taskforces.
REPORT
Noosa Council received complimentary membership of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) until 30
June 2014. The Council of Mayors (SEQ) is the representative body for local governments in
South-east Queensland to address major local government issues affecting that region.
The Council of Mayors (SEQ) was established in September 2005. Representing one in seven
Australians, the Council of Mayors (SEQ) is effectively a lobby organisation for local government
in our region to address local government issues.
The Council of Mayors (SEQ) had a number of committees and taskforces and depending on
their individual effectiveness and the importance to our Council, there may be benefit in having
Noosa Council representatives at some of those committees. The current committees and
taskforces are:
Regional Plan & Growth Management Committee
Environment & Sustainability Committee
Infrastructure Committee
Planning Reform Taskforce
Rural Communities Taskforce
The Council of Mayors (SEQ) is in the process of reviewing these committees and taskforces.
Some have been more effective than others. We should only join and attend individual
committees where there are likely to be tangible outcomes for our Council. To provide flexibility,
it is proposed that the Mayor be authorised to appoint Noosa Council representatives to
committees or taskforces as required.
