5.2.9 Preferred design options CIL
The preferred off-road design options for the links within each missing segment and the other corridor locations are
detailed in Table 35 while the preferred design options for intersections are summarised in Table 36. The preferred off-
road and on-road designs for the entire corridor are presented graphically in Figure 25 and Figure 26 respectively.
Information on the other works proposed along Corridor 2 outside of the missing segments and other corridor locations is
provided in Section 6.1.
Segment 1: Noosa Drive
N
Option C (separated path → cycle street → village scale cycle track) is the preferred off-road design treatment for
Segment 1 as it received consistently high scores in the MCA, as it provides good consistency in the type of the facility
treatment proposed, as it provides dedicated space for cyclists which will be particularly important on steeper path
segments, as it provides excellent future-proofing ability, and as it achieves LTS 1. Although the proposed cycle street
OU
treatment will be provided on the existing road surface, it will form part of the off-road coastal corridor. This option also
provides separated space for pedestrians in a high demand location.
Segment 2: Noosa Junction
Option B (village scale cycle track) is the preferred off-road design treatment for Segment 2 as it received the highest
score in the MCA, as it provides excellent consistency in the type of the facility treatment proposed, as it provides
dedicated space for cyclists, as it provides excellent future-proofing ability, as it achieves LTS 1.

Segment 3: Sunshine Beach
While Option B (village scale cycle track) for Segment 3 received the highest score in the MCA and provides dedicated
space for cyclists, this is not considered the preferred option. This option is inconsistent with the existing shared path
located along David Low Way that currently intersects with the northern end of Pacific Avenue and the treatment is
expected to be more significant than required considering the surrounding land uses and comparatively low pedestrian
and cyclist volumes along the segment. For these reasons and in light of feedback from the PWG, Option C (shared path)
NO
is the preferred off-road option for Segment 3. Importantly, the shared path option fulfils a dual function by addressing
existing gaps in the pedestrian network on the eastern side of Pacific Avenue and by providing an off-road cycle facility
that is better aligned with the local context. The provision of village scale cycle tracks as outlined in Option B could be
considered as a potential future option subject to cost, feasibility, demand and community feedback. At which time, it is
expected that the shared path would become a wide footpath primarily for pedestrian use.
Segment 4: Marcus Beach
Option A (cycle street) is the preferred off-road design treatment for Segment 4 as it received the highest score in the
MCA, as it is cost effective, as it is appropriate to the local context and as it achieves LTS 1. Although the proposed
treatment will be provided on the existing road surface, it will form part of the off-road coastal corridor. This option does
not provide dedicated space for cyclists along Tristania Drive which may reduce the perception of safety for some users.
