Noosa High Priority Cycle Route Corridor Study and Concept Design
Final Options Analysis Report (Corridor 2)
6 CONCEPT DESIGN
This section includes the presentation of the concept design prepared for Corridor 2 and additional supporting content
Y
relating to the scope of the design (refer to Section 6.1), wayfinding (refer to Section 6.3) and a high-level estimate of the
cost to implement (refer to Section 6.4).
LIC
6.1 Preferred design and scope
The preferred design and scope is based on the preferred routes and design treatments as outlined in Section 5.1.8 and
5.2.9 respectively, and the outcome of engagement with the PWG and PRG before and after the formal presentation of
the draft concept design for Corridor 2 in August 2020. This engagement did not lead to design changes or affect the
alignment and treatment options selected in earlier stages of the project and as presented in Section 5. However, it did
PO
highlight the need to further investigate the feasibility and design characteristics of the proposed separated boardwalk
structure adjacent to Noosa Drive, connecting Lions Park in the north to the Noosa Drive service road in the south.
Specifically, this includes the topography and the suitability of path grades for pedestrians and cyclists and the impact on
Lions Park. The preferred design is illustrated in Figure 27 while a corresponding description of proposed works is
presented in Table 37. This is consistent with, and formed the basis for preparing, the concept design (refer to Section
6.2).
It is expected that the preferred off-road design would enable the target LTS for people riding bikes (i.e. LTS 2 or better)
to be achieved but this would require the application of cycle priority on side roads, the provision of appropriate
CIL
treatments across driveways, and the implementation of safe and effective cycle street treatments. These items are to be
considered in detailed design (refer to Section 6.2.2), at which time a reassessment of the LTS on the corridor could be
undertaken to confirm whether the target LTS has been achieved.
The concept design prepared for Corridor 2 addresses, at a high-level, the location and implications of known utilities,
retaining walls, vegetation and public and private transport infrastructure. The design has been prepared to avoid any
direct private property impacts. It is understood that the feasibility of the concept design and any potential implications
N
on existing features (e.g. vegetation, infrastructure) along the corridor will be further investigated in the detailed design
phase.
