Noosa High Priority Cycle Route Corridor Study and Concept Design
Final Options Analysis Report (Corridor 2)
6.2.2 Detailed design considerations
Key considerations for the detailed design phase are outlined in Table 39. These considerations represent the key design
risks for the project that will need to be appropriately investigated and mitigated in detailed design. Higher-level project
Y
risks are identified in Section 6.2.3.

LIC
LOCATION DETAILED DESIGN CONSIDERATION
General • Undertake detailed surveys where required to better understand feasibility, the impact on
existing vegetation, infrastructure, etc., and the need for localised widening of proposed
paths.
• Source Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) data to confirm the location of existing utilities.
PO
• Undertake detailed cost estimates informed by the findings of additional survey and DBYD
data.
• Confirm the use of raised priority cycle crossings along the corridor.
• Confirm driveway treatments to be applied along the corridor.
• Further investigation required of crossing points and connections to PCN.
• Confirm if wayfinding can be extended to key destinations on connecting PCN routes where
CIL
wayfinding has not yet been rolled out.
• Ensure cycle street designs encourage low traffic speed (30km/h or less) and remain
consistent with NDP.
• Confirm lighting type and locations along the corridor. This should consider environmental
issues associated with lighting within bushland and coastal reserve and impacts to koalas
N
and turtles.
• Review latest pedestrian and cyclist crash data to ensure design adequately addresses any
identified issues.
OU
Segment 1: Noosa • Confirm path grades for the proposed separated boardwalk adjacent Noosa Drive, the
Drive suitability for pedestrians and cyclists, and the need for design refinements to improve
usability and comfort (e.g. addition of level rest areas, greater path meandering to reduce
grade)
• Confirm alignment of boardwalk and impact on existing vegetation.
• Confirm cyclist sight distance on boardwalk and fencing solutions. Also consider impacts of
TC
railing height.
• Confirm Noosa Drive/service road intersection arrangement, focusing on solutions to reduce
vehicle entry speeds and ensure safe vehicle-cyclist interactions.
• Confirm suitability of on-street parking locations on Noosa Drive how to manage conflicts at
driveways to ensure cyclist and motorist sight lights are not impeded.
Segment 2: Noosa •
NO
Confirm impacts to existing vegetation and bus stops from the implementation of a village
Junction scale cycle track.
• Apply appropriate driveway treatment to support cyclist priority.
Segment 3: • Confirm how to manage conflicts at driveways and intersections to ensure safe sight lines for
Sunshine Beach cyclists.
• Confirm shared path and crossing alignments (e.g. ability to meander path) and widths (e.g.
ability to apply localised path narrowing) to avoid impacting existing utilities and vegetation.
If utilities are to removed, identify suitable alternative locations to enable the potential
future implementation of a separated path along Pacific Avenue.
0996 – 24 February 2021 – V2 The analysis, design and cost estimating referenced in the report was72undertaken
solely to guide planning and should not be interpreted as a final or endorsed
position of Noosa Council.
