Noosa High Priority Cycle Route Corridor Study and Concept Design
Final Options Analysis Report (Corridor 2)
6.3 Wayfinding
A wayfinding strategy has been developed based on the concept design presented in Appendix 2 in order to improve the
Y
overall legibility of the proposed corridor. The strategy, which is provided in Appendix 4, was prepared following a review
of NSC’s Wayfinding and Coastal Pathway signage suites, a review of existing and planned pedestrian and bicycle
networks, and the development of a wayfinding signage suite for the HPR, comprised of both economy suite and activity
LIC
centre signage items. A review of the concept design was then undertaken to determine the location of wayfinding
signage and the likely information required to assist with wayfinding along the corridor. This review included identifying
directional information, local attractions and destinations, and connecting pathway networks. The wayfinding strategy
provides guidance as to the information required for each suggested wayfinding sign and the type of sign required at each
identified location.
Locations have been identified and indicated along the corridor with a reference number that corresponds to a
PO
wayfinding signage table. This table indicates sign type required, direction sign panel faces, and information to be
included on each face.
Further detailed design work will be required for the wayfinding suite for each stage of the corridor delivery including:
• Signage construction details and materials specification
• Graphical design of each sign type
• Finalisation of signage text and additional information such as arrows or symbols (bike, walking person, boat,
CIL
etc.)
• Precise location of each sign in relation to final design of the HPR.
It should be noted that the list of attractions or destinations suggested in the signage table is not exhaustive and further
investigation may be warranted for the local context.
6.4 Cost estimate
N
The total high-level cost (i.e. including and beyond the 10-year program) to complete the missing links and upgrade
relevant sections of Corridor 2 is estimated at $14.7 million. This includes design and construction costs as well as an
additional 20% cost contingency. It should be noted that this estimation of costs is high-level only and is based on
OU
information available at the time of preparation. It is expected that these costs will be revisited during detailed design.
A breakdown of the high-level cost estimate by location, priority and budget year is provided in Section 7 while a detailed,
itemised cost estimate is provided in Appendix 5.
Delivering the missing links identified in this report will result in a higher level of service for the community resulting in an
increase to Council’s maintenance and renewal costs. At this high-level concept stage, the annual increase can be
estimated at approximately 2 to 4% of the capital cost. The whole of life costs should be considered during the project
TC
initiation stage / detailed design and Council’s budgeting processes.
