                      SandMap – Report of Survey for Sunshine Beach Profiles



                                 Introduction
                                 SandMap Pty Ltd was contracted by the Aboda Design Group to undertake a beach profile
                                 survey at Sunshine Beach to support a Coastal Hazard Assessment for a property development
                                 at 17 The Esplanade, Sunshine Beach. The project involved the survey of three profiles from
                                 the back of the beach, running out to -16m AHD, and located directly in front of the property
                                 plus also 500m to the north and to the south.
                                 To complete the profiles, the beach area of each profile was surveyed using pole mounted RTK
                                 GNSS equipment at low tide, extending into the surf zone as far as was practicable, followed
                                 by a single beam hydrographic survey on the same day at high tide using a PWC running from
                                 beyond -16m AHD through the surf zone and as close to the beach as possible. This technique
                                 was to allow for overlap of the acquired data from the two different sources, providing a
                                 check, and producing seamless data along the entire profile. While the surf zone area is
                                 dynamic with sand shifting quickly, a period of only 4 to 5 hours between the two capture
                                 methods meant differences were only small.
                                 The resulting profile data collected and subsequently delivered contained continuous data
                                 from beyond -16m to the point on the beach requested. The final data can be seen in Figure
                                 1 below. In addition to the three profile lines, top and bottom of the small erosion escarpment
                                 generally just above the high tide level was also captured and can be seen below.
