Operating cost per visit Total cost per visit
Tracking the cost per visit, both for operational cost (exclusive of depreciation and internal charges)
and total cost, can be an effective way to gauge efficiency of service delivery over time. The above
chart clearly shows the impact of reduced attendance on this metric over the past three Covid-
affected years.
3. STAFFING & PEOPLE
The NAC remains a seasonal operation and therefore a large percentage of its team are employed
as casuals, with staff levels fluctuating throughout the year. There has been some natural staff
turnover because of changing environment which has stretched the operations at times, but overall,
the facility has delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
Staff have worked well together throughout the year, ensuring Covid-19 systems and requirements
are upheld and have liaised closely with patrons and clients on the implications of the various
restrictions and lockdowns in the first part of the financial year.
There are no further staffing issues of significance to report, but a focus will be on conversion of
any casuals to possible PPT roles, whilst trying to fill vacant FT roles that currently reside within
the facilities organizational structure.
4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND INITIATIVES
• The NAC’s current software system has some limitations, and we are investigating a
more contemporary system that will allow for enhanced communication, flexibility, and
patron interface. We anticipate shifting at some point in 2023.
• Capital Works scheduled for the upcoming year will include improvement of the light
pole footings to allow installation of LED lights which not only reduces operating costs
but assists council in achieving its’ ZEN targets.
• Funding was secured through the SEQ Community Stimulus Package for the
construction of a shade sail over the southern or shallow end of the 25mtr pool. This
much anticipated shelter will give protection from the elements to coaches,
timekeepers, parents & swimmers.
• The NAC continues to deliver the junior squad program following the voluntary
departure of the previous contract holders. The program is performing well under 4 x
Olympic Coach John Rodgers however recruitment of an additional coach to focus on
younger athletes for a sprint program is proving difficult in the current market.
