Priority 3: Actively Manage Event Impacts
Desired Outcome: Event impacts are well understood, proactively planned for and effectively managed to
protect community amenity and environmental values, while providing clarity, consistency and greater
certainty for event organisers.
Council High-Priority Actions:
1. Strengthen implementation of the Sustainable Event Guidelines and the 50 Shades of Green Guide,
ensuring event planning and delivery adopts a continuous improvement approach to appropriately
address community impacts and sustainability practices, including energy, water and waste
management, relative to the size, scale and nature of each event.
2. Establish a consistent, proportionate and timely approach to impact assessment and mitigation
planning, including earlier stakeholder engagement, clearer approval pathways and improved
coordination for recurring events. Investigate opportunities for longer-term approvals or multi-year
agreements for suitable events to provide greater certainty and reduce administrative burden.
Ongoing Actions:
• Work with event organisers and relevant stakeholders to investigate and implement traffic, transport and
congestion management initiatives, particularly in high-demand locations and peak periods.
• Strengthen monitoring, compliance, event debrief and post-event evaluation processes to support
continuous improvement and inform future event planning and management.
• Enhance proactive communication with residents, businesses and event organisers through forward
event calendars, infrastructure and project updates, and early notification of event-related activities and
planned disruptions.
