PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 2 FEBRUARY 2016
The LEP recognises that it is not only Council that will be implementing all of the initiatives in
the LEP but that a range of other organisations will be involved (e.g. RDA Sunshine Coast,
CCIQ Noosa, Tourism Noosa etc). Council’s role in the LEP projects will vary depending on
the type of initiative. For example, as identified in the LEP, Council may have the following
roles:-
Advocate;
Regulate;
Partner;
Facilitate;
Deliver/Fund.
Consistent with the LEP, the Implementation Plan projects will support:
diversifying the structure of the local economy to grow smart, high value industry
sectors, particularly those that export outside of the Noosa Shire to limit exposure to
sudden and/or unexpected negative changes in industry sectors;
replacing population driven economic growth with growth in industry sectors that have
high economic value, particularly those that have a low environmental impact and that
export outside of the Noosa Shire;
encouraging business growth in sectors that provide a wide range of employment
options;
utilising the strong Noosa brand to grow nominated priority industry sectors;
leveraging local expertise to support the diversification of the local economy;
exploring collaborative industry-driven models to deliver local economic development;
exploring new models to fund local economic development; and
establishing and/or strengthening existing alliances with stakeholder organisations and
institutions and governments to leverage resources.
