Without sports field lighting the Club cannot facilitate home game fixtures or essential training for
their members. This will severely affect the sustainability of the Club with members likely to
move to other clubs to train and play, resulting in the decline or demise of the club. The
clubhouse also forms an integral part of the Cooran community, representing the social and
community hub of the town.

Due to changes within the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League Association’s competition
management of fixtures and club structure, the plan for 2015 included an increased involvement
of the Cooran facility due to its convenient geographic position between the Sunshine Coast and
Gympie. These fixture changes included hosting a number of A-Grade games which would be of
significant benefit to the club, however, cannot happen without sports field lighting.

No other alternative available funding sources have been identified by Council officers, State
Government Officers or stakeholders involved at this point in time. It is proposed to seek the
additional contribution from Council in the next budget review.

It is important to note that even if Council increases its funding to $45,000 State Government
funding for the project is not guaranteed. This will be a decision for the Minister.
