Budget Actuals
The NLC has four major operating streams:
program operations – including volleyball, netball and badminton.
group fitness program
café/retail operations
general operations – including venue hire.
Figures above show revenue is within one dollar of budget. Expenditure savings of $19,586 sees
the centre deliver a YTD net positive variance to budget of $19,587.
Venue hire and special events revenue missed projections by a combined $9,704. $3,714 of this
can be attributed to the cancellation of a special event booking (roller derby). The remaining
amount is predominantly due to a decrease in weekend court hire from one of NLC’s major
clients, Noosa District Basketball Association (NDBA). A recent merge of clubs on the Sunshine
Coast means that representative weekend games are now being shared with other venues on
the Sunshine Coast. This has resulted in a significant reduction of weekend bookings at NLC,
however revenue is expected to increase over coming months as NDBA increases its bookings
for weekday training and the upcoming senior game season.
The Kids’ Play Room shows a revenue shortfall of $10,507 however the budget dates back to
when the Jump Bunch program was operational. Removal of this program and conversion of the
room to an unstaffed play space has resulted in casual and relief salary labour savings more than
offsetting the revenue shortfall. In fact a YTD net profit of $9,492 has been generated from the
Kids’ Play Room compared to just $2,044 for the same period in 2014/15 when Jump Bunch was
running.
The Café has maintained its strong start to the year and revenue currently sits at $13,647 ahead
of budget while expenses are virtually in line with budget. A majority of this positive variance is
due to high centre attendance numbers from special events and catering occurring in July,
October and November.
