Changes in demographics, increased patronage, cost benefits, sustainability, environmental impacts and overall community benefit are key indicators when planning for capital upgrades and new pathways and boardwalk assets. The graph below identifies the 2018/2019 financial year as the most significant investment for upgrade and expansion projects for the next 10 years. These works related to the completion of the iconic Park Road Boardwalk at Noosa Main Beach. This project is a good indication of the commitment from Council to further develop the services it provides to the community as well as promote future economic development to the tourism and business sectors in the provision of such an iconic piece of infrastructure. Figure 8: Pathways and boardwalks proposed upgrades Costs The development/implementation of the Transport Strategy and the Walking and Cycling Strategy will be fundamental in the ongoing development of the upgrade program. As a result, it is anticipated there will be more upgrades required into the future development of the 10-year capital program for the pathways and boardwalk network. The development of the Walking and Cycling Strategy will further improve the priority of upgrades, expansions and new pathway and boardwalk infrastructure and enable greater planning and potential for obtaining external funding opportunities. Once the Walking and Cycling Strategy is adopted by Council this plan will be updated to reflect the projects identified within the strategy to ensure the AMP and the Walking and Cycling Strategy remain aligned.
