SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 NOVEMBER 2019
This information was communicated to the Transport Steering Group members and TransLink.
In September 2019, DNRME informally advised Council staff that whilst the Department was not
supportive, Council, as trustee, could use the Reserve in any manner Council deemed
appropriate.
In October 2019, following approaches by the community, DNRME have formally advised Council
in writing that the Department now offers no objection to Council, as trustee, making appropriate
arrangements for the Reserve to be used for parking during Christmas 2019 and Easter 2020.
2. Noosa Heads Lions Park – Christmas 2019/20 & Easter 2020
It is proposed to operate the Noosa Heads Lions Park as a paid car park for Go Noosa Christmas
2019/20 and Easter 2020. The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club is proposed to manage the operation
of the car park from 9.00am to 6.00pm daily. The following dates have been selected based on
liaison with the Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club and a review of previous car parking occupation.
Christmas 2019/20: 14-15 December 2019, 21-22 December 2019, 26 December 2019 – 5
January 2020,11-12 January 2020, 18-19 January, 25-26-27 January (Australia Day long week-
end).
Easter 2020: 4-5 April, 10-13 April (Easter long week-end), 18-19 April.
In order to reduce adverse impacts on the Reserve, the Reserve will not be opened for parking in
wet weather or when the grounds are saturated. Given that the Council has recently restored the
park following the wet weather during the Noosa Food and Wine Festival, it is anticipated that a
conservative approach will be taken to closures for wet weather i.e. protection of the park will be
paramount in any decision to close due to wet weather.
